PLYMOUTH OFFENDER JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON DRUNK STUDENT
A man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for sexually assaulting a fellow university student who was severely intoxicated and drifting in and out of consciousness.
Daniel Perkins, aged 32, reportedly walked the woman home and then took advantage of her after she had collapsed on her bed.
The court heard that Perkins stripped her and engaged in sexual activity with her despite her clear discomfort and pain, calling her a “baby” and talking in a dirty manner.
He raped her three times following a night out at Club Envy in Plymouth.
Perkins maintained his innocence, claiming she was not as drunk as alleged and that she consented.
However, the jury convicted him on all three counts after a week-long trial.
Judge Paul Darlow sentenced Perkins to eight years, emphasizing her vulnerability and her inability to resist due to intoxication.
The victim expressed trauma and regret, stating she had to leave Plymouth University and restart her studies.
The court also heard that Perkins, who used to work at Pizza Hut, had no prior police cautions or convictions.
