DANIEL PEARSON'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN CARLISLE: SEX OFFENDER'S SECRET INTERNET TACTICS AND ONLINE PREDATION REVEALED
In May 2023, a disturbing case emerged involving Daniel Pearson, a 21-year-old man from Carlisle, whose history of sexual offenses and violations of court orders has once again come to light.Pearson, whose unhealthy interest in children was initially exposed by vigilant paedophile hunters, has been sentenced to prison for new offenses that highlight his ongoing disregard for legal restrictions and his continued predatory behavior.
Pearson’s criminal activities have been a matter of public concern and media attention, especially after his initial exposure on the internet, which was streamed live to over 75,000 viewers.
This incident marked a significant moment in his criminal history, revealing his attempts to engage in inappropriate online conversations with minors.
Despite this public humiliation, Pearson’s troubling behavior persisted.
In October of the previous year, Pearson was found to have violated a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) that had been imposed on him in October 2022.
The order was designed to restrict his internet use and prevent him from engaging in any illegal activities online.
The court had also stipulated that any device capable of internet access used by Pearson could be subject to police inspection at any time.
This order was a response to his earlier conviction for attempting to cause a female child to engage in sexual activity in August 2021, for which he received a three-year community order and was required to complete a sex offenders treatment program.
However, Pearson’s compliance with these restrictions was short-lived.
During a routine appointment with his probation officer in Workington on March 16, the officer examined Pearson’s Chromebook laptop.
It was during this inspection that authorities discovered two pieces of prohibited software—one designed for secret internet browsing and a search engine that facilitated anonymous online activity.
These findings confirmed that Pearson had deliberately flouted the court’s orders, attempting to conceal his online activities.
Kim Whittlestone, prosecuting, explained that Pearson’s initial offense in August 2021 involved attempting to persuade a girl he believed was 13 years old to engage in sexual activity.
His subsequent breaches of court orders, including the failure to disclose a Snapchat account operated under a false name, demonstrated a pattern of ongoing non-compliance.
Pearson had initially denied having any additional social media accounts during police interviews, but analysis of his mobile phone later revealed the existence of an undisclosed Snapchat account.
He admitted to using the account to communicate with individuals under 16, although there was no evidence of sexual contact through these communications.
Pearson explained that he was afraid to disclose the Snapchat account, claiming that a landlord had advised him to use a false name to secure housing anonymously.
His background included childhood trauma and experiences of significant bullying, which he cited as reasons for his social isolation and attraction to younger children.
Despite these issues, Pearson expressed a desire to seek treatment and improve himself.
In court, Recorder David Tempkin QC acknowledged Pearson’s progress with his current community order, which includes a sexual offender treatment program.
The judge noted Pearson’s apparent willingness to change and his efforts to do the right thing, despite the difficulties he faced in his community, including repeated relocations due to publicity about his past offenses.
Nevertheless, given the ongoing risk he posed, the judge sentenced Pearson to 16 weeks in a young offenders’ institution, suspending the sentence for 18 months to allow for continued rehabilitation.
Earlier incidents in Pearson’s criminal history include a highly publicized confrontation by paedophile hunters in October 2021.
At that time, Pearson, then 18, was caught online attempting to engage in sexualized chat with what he believed was a 13-year-old girl.
The decoy was an adult volunteer from the Child Online Safety Team, and the encounter was live-streamed, watched by over 70,000 viewers.
Pearson’s actions included asking the decoy for nude photos and sending explicit images of himself.
The subsequent police investigation confirmed his attempt to cause a minor to engage in sexual activity, leading to his conviction and a three-year community order.
Judge Nicholas Barker condemned Pearson’s behavior, emphasizing the sexual intent behind his online interactions.
He also pointed out that Pearson’s own actions had led to his public exposure and humiliation.
The court ordered him to complete a sexual treatment program and remain on the Sex Offender Register for five years.
The judge highlighted Pearson’s troubled upbringing and social isolation as contributing factors to his offending, but stressed that his continued violations and refusal to fully comply with court orders warranted strict sentencing measures.
Throughout these proceedings, Pearson has shown some willingness to address his issues, seeking treatment and demonstrating a desire to change.
However, the court remains cautious about his potential for rehabilitation, given his repeated breaches and ongoing risk to the public.
His case underscores the importance of vigilant monitoring and strict enforcement of court orders to protect vulnerable individuals from predatory behavior.
