DANIEL OLLETT AND HIS SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE IN ROMSEY

A man described as a “disgusting” paedophile, Daniel Ollett, was found to possess more than a dozen images depicting the abuse of children after engaging in a disturbing online campaign targeting what he believed to be a 12-year-old girl. Ollett’s actions included coercing the girl into sending explicit images of herself, as well as sending explicit photographs of himself.

The investigation revealed that Ollett, 32 years old, spent over a month communicating with what he thought was a schoolgirl. During this period, he sent a photo of his erect penis and repeatedly solicited sexual images from her. To maintain the deception, Ollett posed as a 17-year-old boy, adding the girl on Snapchat and encouraging her to engage in sexual activity. His manipulative behavior escalated when he sent her an image of himself wearing a mask, after which the contact abruptly ceased.

Unbeknownst to Ollett, the girl was actually an undercover police officer. Following his arrest at his home in Treviglio Close, Romsey, law enforcement officials discovered on his devices a total of 13 indecent images of children being abused. Additionally, they found an extreme pornographic image, further highlighting the severity of his offenses.

Ollett later admitted guilt to multiple charges, including attempting to cause or incite a female child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity, attempting to communicate sexually with a child, creating three counts of making indecent images, and possessing extreme pornography.

During the court proceedings, prosecutor Ed Wilde told Southampton Crown Court on Tuesday that prior to the incident in April 2021, Ollett had been considered a man of good character. However, his actions during this period marked a significant and disturbing deviation.

Defence lawyer Edward Warren acknowledged that Ollett had struggled with alcohol and drug issues at the time but emphasized that he had since turned his life around by establishing his own carpentry business in Southampton. Warren expressed that Ollett fully understands the damage caused to his family and described his fall from grace as “spectacular.” He also noted that Ollett, who has no previous convictions, feels profound shame and remorse for his conduct.

Despite these mitigating factors, Judge Christopher Parker KC described Ollett’s actions as “simply disgusting.” The judge pointed out that Ollett’s attempt to contact the child followed his access to images of children being abused by adults, which indicated a concerning escalation in his behavior. The judge emphasized that such conduct posed a significant risk to the public and stated that the case could not be dealt with through a suspended sentence.

As a result, Ollett was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison. He was also subjected to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and lifelong notification requirements, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the community from further harm.
