DANIEL MARINESCU SENTENCED IN CARLISLE FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON YOUNG GIRL
In a case that has deeply shocked the community of Carlisle, a man named Daniel Ionut Marinescu has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a young girl. The incident took place on April 6th at an address within Carlisle, where Marinescu, then 28 years old, committed a disturbing act against a primary school-aged girl.
According to court proceedings, Marinescu initially attempted to dismiss the incident as an accident.
However, he later admitted to two charges of sexual assault, acknowledging his wrongdoing.
The assault involved Marinescu pushing the young girl to the ground before subjecting her to sexual assault, an act that has left a lasting impact on the victim and her family.
The girl’s mother, who was present during the court hearing, expressed the profound effect the attack has had on their lives.
She stated that the incident has “changed our lives” and revealed her ongoing concern for her daughter’s well-being.
In a heartfelt statement read aloud by prosecutor Brendan Burke, she described how the trauma has affected her family, noting that the girl’s father now often cries, something previously uncommon for him.
Following the assault, the young girl confided in her mother, prompting her to contact both the police and the NSPCC, the child protection charity.
The case drew significant attention in the courtroom, where Marinescu, who was described as having no fixed address at the time, expressed remorse for his actions.
He offered apologies to the victim’s family, stating that he “regrets his offending wholeheartedly.” Despite his remorse, Judge Peter Davies emphasized the severity of the crime, telling Marinescu, “What you did to her, you must know, has had a substantial impact on her.” The judge’s words underscored the lasting harm caused by the assault.
As part of his sentence, Marinescu is required to register as a sex offender and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect indefinitely.
Additionally, he is barred from working with children and vulnerable adults, reflecting the serious nature of his offense and the measures necessary to protect the community from future harm.
