DANIEL MACRURY FROM WICK SHOCKS ONLINE DATING SCENE WITH INDECENT PHOTO
In a case that has sent ripples through the community of Wick, a local man named Daniel Macrury, aged 34, found himself in court after an incident involving an explicit image sent to an online acquaintance. The incident unfolded after Macrury, who has a history of previous offenses, attempted to rekindle a romantic connection with a woman he met through an online dating platform.According to court proceedings, the relationship between Macrury and the woman appeared to be progressing positively by the end of the previous year. Macrury, residing on Battery Road in Wick, expressed a desire to meet in person, indicating his eagerness to advance their relationship. However, the woman was cautious and preferred to take things more slowly, emphasizing that they did not know each other well enough for such a step.
Despite her reservations, Macrury persisted, and the situation took a troubling turn on January 21. The woman noticed that Macrury had sent her a photograph showing him sitting on a sofa, with his underwear pulled down and his private parts fully exposed. This unsolicited and explicit image was sent without any prior indication or consent, and the woman had not given any signals that such conduct was welcome or expected.
Legal representatives revealed that the woman was understandably upset and did not wish to continue any further contact with Macrury. When questioned by police, Macrury admitted that the relationship had cooled off and that his actions were an attempt to reignite the connection. He acknowledged that sending the explicit photo was completely inappropriate and regretted his decision.
During the court hearing at Wick Sheriff Court, solicitor Sylvia Maclennan presented a background report on Macrury, describing him as someone who was making efforts to move past his previous offenses and start anew in Caithness. She highlighted that Macrury was experiencing depression and was distressed about being back in the criminal justice system.
The court, presided over by Sheriff Mark O' Hanlon, sentenced Macrury to 100 hours of unpaid community service, which he is required to complete while under supervision. Additionally, Macrury was placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for a period of three years and was subject to a one-year non-harassment order. This order prohibits him from contacting or approaching the woman, referred to as 'Miss X,' to prevent any further distress or harassment.
The case underscores the serious consequences of inappropriate conduct in digital communications, especially when involving explicit content sent without consent. The community of Wick will be watching closely as Macrury begins his period of rehabilitation and community service, hoping that this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting boundaries and the law.
