DANIEL HAYELOM SHOCKS BEESTON WITH RAPE INCIDENT IN WEST YORKSHIRE
Daniel Hayelom, a 36-year-old man working as an Uber driver, has been convicted of a serious sexual assault that took place in Beeston, West Yorkshire. The incident unfolded in the early hours of October 22, 2023, when Hayelom targeted a woman walking home after attending a party. The victim, who was under the influence of alcohol, was walking through the quiet streets of Beeston shortly after 6am when Hayelom’s actions began to unfold.According to police reports, Hayelom was seen driving past the woman multiple times in his vehicle, which raised suspicion among witnesses. After several passes, he parked his car nearby and lay in wait in the darkness, observing her movements. The victim, intoxicated and vulnerable, was approached by Hayelom, who engaged her in conversation. Exploiting her state of intoxication, he then forcibly dragged her into an alleyway adjacent to a Poundland store in Beeston.
In that secluded spot, Hayelom committed the heinous act of rape. After the assault, he returned to his vehicle in a calm manner, seemingly unperturbed by the gravity of his actions. The incident did not go unnoticed for long, as detectives swiftly responded to the scene. They recovered CCTV footage from nearby cameras, which played a crucial role in identifying Hayelom. His vehicle’s registration number was captured on the footage, leading to his immediate arrest.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that the victim was too intoxicated to give valid consent for any sexual activity. Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle expressed his condemnation of Hayelom’s actions, stating, “Hayelom targeted the victim as someone he saw as being vulnerable at the time. He could have helped her to get home safely but instead he chose to prey on her for his own gratification. His actions have had a significant traumatic impact on the victim...”
The court has scheduled Hayelom’s sentencing for May 2, where he will face the consequences of his actions. The case has shocked the community of Beeston and highlights the importance of vigilance and support for victims of such crimes.
