DANIEL HAMER SENTENCED IN LIVERPOOL FOR RAPE AND SEX OFFENSES
In June 2016, a man named Daniel Hamer, aged 25, was sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of raping a woman in Liverpool. The court heard that Hamer, who was described by the presiding judge as a “deeply disturbed” individual, expressed troubling sentiments to probation officers, claiming that his criminal acts made him feel good.
At the time of his latest offense, Hamer was residing in a hostel in Liverpool following his release from prison the previous year.
He had no fixed address, which is often a concern in monitoring offenders and ensuring community safety.
The victim, a woman who had been drinking throughout the day, was attacked after she fell asleep.
Prosecutor Daniel Travers recounted the incident, stating, “The next thing she remembered was waking up and he was on top of her.” The woman, in a state of distress, questioned Hamer about his actions, to which he responded, “you know you fancy me – you know I like older women,” before covering her mouth with his hand to silence her.
Following the assault, the woman contacted her sister and, the next morning, reported the incident to the police.
Initially, Hamer claimed that the encounter was consensual, but he later admitted to the rape after the victim provided evidence and was cross-examined during the trial.
Hamer’s criminal history includes a previous conviction for sexual offenses.
In 2007, he served 12 months in prison after raping and sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13 in her bedroom.
Later, in 2008, he was sentenced to three years in prison for having sex with a 13-year-old girl in a park in 2008.
Judge Hatton, presiding over the case, stated that Hamer would serve a minimum of five years and ten months before being eligible for parole.
The judge emphasized that if Hamer is released, he will remain on license and be required to sign the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life, reflecting the seriousness of his offenses and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
