DANIEL DENNIS OF HULL JAILED FOR SEVEN YEARS OVER GROTESQUE SEXUAL ABUSE AGAINST GIRLS
In July 2017, a man from Hull was sentenced to seven years in prison after subjecting two young girls to appalling sexual abuse.Daniel Dennis, aged 37, inflicted severe psychological injuries on his victims; one was so traumatized that she became afraid to leave her home.
During the abuse, Dennis told one girl that she wouldn't develop unless he touched her, and on another occasion, he assaulted her despite her protests and attempts to kick him away.
Dennis, residing on Valiant Drive in east Hull, initially denied the charges.
However, on the morning his trial was set to begin last week, he broke down in court and admitted his guilt, pleading guilty to eight counts of sexual activity with a child and two counts involving a child under 13.
A victim impact statement read on behalf of one of the girls detailed the profound effect of his actions, revealing she now feels 'frightened to get showered or changed,' preferring to remain covered up.
She described suffering from 'severe depression and anxiety,' with fears so intense that she was too scared to leave her house, leading to social isolation at school.
She recounted experiencing two panic attacks where she required ambulance assistance, and how her fears extended to simply walking down the street.
She concluded by stating, 'Because of the things he did, my life has worked out totally differently to how it should have done.' Judge Mark Bury described Dennis's crimes as 'outrageous and grotesque,' emphasizing that his actions had caused 'something approaching serious psychological harm' to his victims.
As part of his sentence, Dennis is also required to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for life.
