DANIEL ANDERSON SHAMES PERTH IN DOMESTIC ABUSE CASE

A sheriff has publicly condemned a Perth man for his callous and abusive behavior, highlighting the seriousness of domestic violence and the importance of accountability.

Daniel Anderson, aged 27 and from Fechney Park, was involved in a disturbing pattern of psychological and physical abuse directed towards his girlfriend, which took place at a property located on Primrose Crescent in Perth.

During a court hearing, it was revealed that Anderson subjected his partner to relentless harassment, including persistent phone calls and menacing text messages designed to intimidate and control her.

The court heard that his abusive conduct extended beyond verbal threats, as he physically assaulted her by grabbing her and pulling her down a flight of stairs.

Additionally, Anderson encouraged her to self-harm, a deeply troubling aspect of his behavior that demonstrated a blatant disregard for her well-being.

He also advised her not to take her prescribed medication, further exacerbating the harm inflicted upon her.

In response to his actions, Anderson was ordered to pay his former partner £1,000 in compensation, with payments to be made at a rate of £100 per month.

The court also imposed a two-year supervision order, requiring him to participate in the Caledonian Programme, a specialized initiative aimed at helping male domestic abusers understand and address their behavior.

Anderson was charged under the Scottish Government’s 2018 domestic abuse legislation, which for the first time criminalized a wide range of psychological harms within intimate relationships.

This legislation marked a significant step forward in recognizing the full spectrum of abuse.

Anderson later pleaded guilty to the charges midway through his trial, following testimony from his victim.

Despite his admission, he continued to deny some of his actions and even attempted to shift blame onto his girlfriend when speaking with social workers.

During the sentencing hearing, Sheriff Duthie was highly critical of Anderson’s attempt to minimize his culpability by blaming his victim’s behavior.

The sheriff emphasized that “You are totally to blame” and warned that “this incident was entirely your fault,” making it clear that responsibility lies solely with Anderson.

While expressing concern over Anderson’s apparent lack of insight into the gravity of his actions, the sheriff still deemed him suitable for the Caledonian Programme, which Anderson acknowledged would be a challenging but necessary process for his rehabilitation.

Looking ahead, Anderson is scheduled to begin work in the demolition industry.

He also admitted to breaching a bail order by approaching his ex-girlfriend at Tesco in Blairgowrie in February 2021, with sentencing on that particular matter deferred for six months, allowing further legal proceedings to unfold.
