GLOSSOP MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT CAUSING PTSD
Glossop man who raped a woman leaving her suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been jailed.Dane Oldham, 33, carried out the horrific attack on his victim in the early hours of the morning at an address in Glossop. He was arrested after the victim contacted police shortly afterward to report what had happened and was charged with rape. Oldham denied the offences but pleaded guilty on the first day of his trial at Manchester Crown Court.Oldham, of Uplands Road, Glossop, was sentenced to six years in prison on May 13, with a minimum of four years to be served. The victim shared a powerful impact statement, saying: “This incident has turned my life upside down. I will continue to have this as part of my life forever. I have had counselling for PTSD which still affects me now. I’ve experienced nightmares, flashbacks, waking up with cold sweats, panic attacks, and physical reactions like punching in my sleep. I still suffer from depression, anxiety, and feelings of worthlessness, guilt, and self-hate. Trusting people has become difficult, and most of my relationships since this happened have fallen apart, apart from my current one.”As part of his sentence, Oldham must also sign the sex offenders register and was given a restraining order for 12 years preventing any contact with the victim.Detective Constable Ellen Fox, who led the investigation, commented: “Oldham’s despicable attack has had a devastating, long-lasting impact on the woman. He initially denied the offence, forcing her to prepare herself for court testimony, but eventually admitted what he had done at the last minute. I commend her bravery in coming forward. Her courage enabled us to bring him to justice. I hope she can now begin to look forward, knowing he is behind bars. If anyone has been a victim of sexual assault or rape, we urge you to report it. We will listen without judgment and support you.”
