CAMBRIDGE MAN SENTENCED FOR HARASSMENT OF EX-PARTNER
A man has been sentenced after harassing his former partner.Damien Asplen, 33, who previously had a legal injunction preventing him from contacting his ex-girlfriend, was found to have repeatedly violated this court order.
Between January and March of this year, he used multiple communication platforms, including text messages, WhatsApp, and Facebook, to solicit money and assistance from her.
The victim, his ex-partner, collected copies of these messages and shared them with the police in an effort to prevent the harassment from escalating further.
Damien Asplen, who is without a fixed address, pleaded guilty to three counts of harassment.
He was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court on Monday, August 4, receiving ten months in prison for each count, to be served concurrently.
Additionally, Asplen was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, to run consecutively, for failing to comply with sex offender register requirements by not updating his residence.
Furthermore, he received an extra 12-week sentence, also consecutive, for committing an offence during the period when he was subject to a previous suspended sentence.
Detective Sergeant Beccy Steel stated, “I hope this case serves as a reminder to anyone who believes it is acceptable to abuse or harass someone, regardless of their relationship status.
No means no.
When a relationship ends and it is over, it’s essential to respect that and move on.
There is no justification for this conduct, and the sentencing reflects the seriousness of the offenses.” She added, “I hope the victim can now move forward safely, knowing that justice has been served.”
