DAMIAN PRITCHARD FROM PLYMOUTH SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRL AND OVERDOSE DRIVING INCIDENT
In September 2017, a disturbing case unfolded in Plymouth involving Damian Pritchard, a 33-year-old man who was convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses against a young girl. The case drew significant attention due to the severity of the crimes and the emotional impact on the victim.
According to court proceedings, Pritchard was found guilty of sexually assaulting a primary school-aged girl, an act that had devastating consequences for her mental health.
The victim, in a heartfelt statement read out in court, revealed that she had begged her mother to let her die, overwhelmed by the trauma inflicted upon her by Pritchard.
Her suffering was compounded by the fact that she had also been raped by two other men at different points in her life, highlighting a pattern of abuse that spanned several years.
It was only after the victim summoned the courage to contact the police last year that Pritchard was finally brought to justice.
The court heard that he had committed multiple offenses, including five counts of indecent assault, one count of gross indecency, and an additional charge of attempting to have intercourse with a girl under the age of 13.
These charges, known as specimen counts, indicated that the assaults occurred on numerous occasions, underscoring the repeated nature of his misconduct.
Judge Paul Darlow sentenced Pritchard to a prison term of three years and nine months, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
Pritchard, who resides on Alexandra Road in the Mutley area of Plymouth, had initially denied the charges but later admitted to the offenses.
His admission came after a trial was scheduled, during which he was due to face seven counts of assault on the girl between 1998 and 2000.
However, shortly after the jury was sworn in, Pritchard changed his plea to guilty on all counts, including indecent assault and an attempt to have sex with the young girl.
The court records detailed that Pritchard's acts included inappropriate touching and coercing the girl into performing sexual acts on him.
The case has left a lasting impact on the community and highlights the importance of vigilance and reporting in protecting vulnerable children from abuse.
