DAFALLAH ALGHORA SENTENCED IN DERBY FOR PREGNANCY OF TEENAGE GIRL FROM SUDAN
In a case that has shocked the local community in Derby, a 27-year-old man named Dafallah Alghora has been convicted of engaging in unlawful sexual activity with a minor and causing her to become pregnant.The incident, which took place in 2018, culminated in the birth of a baby boy in December of the same year, drawing significant attention from law enforcement and the courts.
According to court proceedings held at Derby Crown Court, Alghora had a consensual sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl attending a local school.
The court was informed that the relationship began when the girl was still 14, and it was only later that her mother disclosed her true age to Alghora.
Initially, the girl had told him she was 16, which he believed at the time.
However, the truth was uncovered during police investigations.
Authorities in Derby responded swiftly after being alerted to the situation.
Police officers arrested Alghora on Pear Tree Road, where he was taken into custody.
During police interviews conducted in May of the previous year, Alghora admitted to having sex with the girl but claimed he believed she was 16 at the time.
The prosecution, led by Laura Pitman, highlighted that Alghora had stated in his home country of Sudan, it was common for men to marry and engage in sexual relations with girls as young as 13.
Despite this cultural context, he acknowledged that he was aware of the UK’s legal age of consent, which is 16.
Further details revealed that the girl gave birth to their son in December 2018, marking a significant and troubling development in the case.
Alghora pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual activity with a child, a charge that underscores the severity of his actions.
During sentencing, Judge Shaun Smith QC described the case as “unusual,” reflecting the complexities involved.
Alghora was sentenced to 15 months in prison.
In addition to his custodial sentence, the judge imposed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, aimed at protecting the community from potential future offenses.
Alghora was also ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of 10 years.
The judge noted that any decision regarding his possible deportation back to Sudan would be made by the Home Office, leaving that aspect of his case to immigration authorities.
