CURTIS THICK POOLE MAN ESCAPES JAIL DESPITE NEARLY 4000 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In a case that has shocked the community of Poole, Curtis Thick, a 23-year-old resident of Jubilee Road, narrowly avoided a prison sentence after being found in possession of an alarming number of indecent images of children.The court heard that Thick had amassed nearly 4,000 illicit images, including both still photographs and moving pictures, depicting the sexual abuse of minors.
On December 21, Bournemouth Crown Court was informed that law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Thick’s residence.
During the raid, they confiscated a Toshiba laptop and a Samsung tablet, both of which contained a disturbing collection of illegal material.
The police analysis revealed that the laptop held 133 Category A still images and one Category A moving image, along with 210 Category B still images, one Category B moving image, and 108 Category C images.
Meanwhile, the tablet was found to contain 394 Category A still images, 984 Category A moving images, 582 Category B still images, 478 Category B moving images, 407 Category C images, and 450 Category C moving images.
It was also disclosed that Thick was already under police investigation following his previous encounter with a paedophile hunting team last year.
However, charges related to that incident had not yet been formally filed at the time of sentencing.
Prosecutor Mr.
Brian Sharman highlighted the severity of the case, emphasizing that Thick chose to remain silent when questioned by police, answering “no comment” to all inquiries.
He described the case as aggravated by the sheer volume of images and the number of victims involved.
The images included graphic depictions of children and infants being penetrated by an adult male, a detail that underscores the heinous nature of the material.
During sentencing, Judge Mr.
Robert Pawson addressed Thick directly, stating, “Mr.
Thick, somewhere on the planet, there is a human being who has endured that abuse, and you are, at least in part, responsible for that suffering.
If individuals like you did not download these images, then the perpetrators behind the abuse would not continue filming it.
You are fueling that demand.” He further questioned Thick’s conscience, suggesting that most people would be appalled by such actions and that the impact on victims is lifelong.
The judge emphasized that Thick’s actions were driven by sexual gratification and that he bears responsibility for the ongoing abuse depicted in the images.
Judge Pawson expressed the view that most members of the public would expect prison for such offenses, but also acknowledged the importance of rehabilitation.
As a result, he imposed a three-year community order, a seven-year sexual harm prevention order, and a curfew from 6am to 6pm for five months.
Additionally, Thick was required to complete 35 days of rehabilitative activities.
He warned that any breach of these orders would result in imprisonment, regardless of Thick’s physical disability.
The judge made it clear that serving a prison sentence for a sexual interest in children is a serious matter, and that the court’s primary goal was to give Thick the best chance at rehabilitation.
However, he cautioned that if Thick reoffended or failed to comply with the court’s orders, he would face immediate imprisonment, stating, “If you appear before me again, I will consider that you have wasted the court’s opportunity.
You have had your chance, and if you do not take it, you will go to prison, full stop.”
