CURTIS CRITCHLEY FROM SHEFFIELD CAUGHT STEALING CHILDREN'S CLOTHES AND INVOLVED IN SEXUAL OFFENSES IN DONCASTER AND ROTHERHAM
In a series of disturbing incidents that have shocked the local communities, Curtis Critchley, a 19-year-old resident of Redwall Close, Dinnington, Sheffield, has been brought to justice following his involvement in theft and sexual offenses spanning multiple locations, including Doncaster and Rotherham. It was in May 2020 that Critchley's criminal activities first came under scrutiny.
The police investigation was triggered when he was caught red-handed stealing children’s underwear from a former neighbour’s washing line in Denaby, Doncaster.
During the subsequent search and investigation, authorities discovered Critchley in possession of additional stolen children’s clothing, along with two indecent images depicting minors.
These findings raised serious concerns about his intentions and activities involving young people.
Prosecutor Gordon Stables outlined that while Critchley was under police investigation, he engaged in online communication with a 14-year-old girl via Snapchat.
During their conversations, Critchley falsely claimed to be 15 years old, leading the girl to believe they were in a romantic relationship.
This online interaction marked the beginning of a troubling pattern of behavior.
Further investigations revealed that Critchley had moved into sheltered accommodation in Dinnington, where he falsely told staff that he was in a relationship with a girlfriend.
Checks were carried out, and the authorities were informed about his claims.
Despite this, Critchley continued to pursue contact with the young girl, whom he met in March.
The girl, whose identity is protected for legal reasons, was reported missing by her grandmother after she failed to return home.
According to Mr.
Stables, Critchley and the girl were taken to Rotherham by a friend of Critchley’s.
They then caught a bus to Critchley’s accommodation, where a disturbing incident occurred.
During the journey, Critchley persuaded the girl to perform sexual acts on him over his clothing.
The situation escalated further when staff at the sheltered accommodation asked the girl to leave, but Critchley arranged for a friend to give them a lift to a Holiday Inn in Manvers, Rotherham.
At the hotel, Critchley engaged in further inappropriate conduct, touching the girl’s private parts beneath and over her clothing.
The girl also performed a sexual act on him.
Police later found Critchley at the hotel with condoms, confirming the sexual activity.
Critchley pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including two counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity and one count of penetrative sexual activity, all relating to incidents in March 2020.
He also admitted to theft of clothing, handling stolen items, and possessing two indecent images of minors from August and September 2019.
Judge Graham Reeds QC sentenced Critchley to a term of three years and four months in a Young Offender Institution.
Additionally, Critchley is required to register as a sex offender for life, and he was placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years.
A ten-year restraining order was also issued to prevent any contact with the victims or related parties, underscoring the severity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
