June 2017 Romanian paedophile who groomed 10 young children A twisted paedophile, who groomed 10 young children through a social media gaming website, has been jailed for 19-and-a-half years. Cristian Ciprian Nae, 39, was sentenced when he appeared before the Ialomita Tribunal in Romania on March 22 following a joint investigation by Surrey Police and the National Crime Agency (NCA). In 2015, Surrey Police launched an investigation into Nae’s activities, who was believed to be grooming children over the internet. The initial child victim was from Surrey but during the course of the investigation, officers uncovered a further nine children in other parts of the UK and Ireland who had also fallen victim to Nae. Nae operated from Romania and used a gaming website to contact his victims, who were aged between eight and 12 years old, before attempting to incite them to engage in sexual activity. Once it was discovered the offender was operating from Romania, an NCA officer based in Romania worked with Surrey Police and the Romanian authorities to facilitate the investigation. Nae’s appeal against his 19-and-a-half year sentence has since been rejected.
