CRAIG STEWART AND SHOCKING SEXUAL OFFENCES IN WARRINGTON
A convicted sexual predator, Craig Stewart of Clay Lane, Burtonwood, has been permanently removed from society after being sentenced to a prison term of three years and four months at Liverpool Crown Court. This sentencing followed his admission to multiple sexual offences, bringing to an end a lengthy investigation into his disturbing activities.
The investigation into Stewart’s heinous actions was initiated by the British Transport Police in July 2016, when suspicions first arose regarding his conduct.
The focus of their inquiry centered on allegations involving a 15-year-old girl, whose phone was examined by detectives.
During this digital forensic analysis, authorities uncovered a disturbing series of conversations between Stewart and the young victim.
These exchanges revealed a pattern of grooming and exploitation that spanned months.
In September 2016, Stewart was formally apprehended by law enforcement officers.
Under the alias ‘John Edwards,’ he engaged in communication with multiple young girls across various parts of the country.
Stewart’s manipulative tactics involved coaxing these minors into sending sexually explicit images of themselves.
To further his deceptive schemes, he used photographs of unidentified teenage boys, creating a false pretense to persuade the girls to send him indecent pictures.
Adding to the gravity of his crimes, Stewart made numerous efforts to arrange face-to-face meetings with his victims, who were spread across different locations within the United Kingdom.
However, these encounters were never realized, and no victim was physically harmed as a result of these attempts.
Stewart faced numerous charges brought forward by the prosecution.
He publicly pleaded guilty to five counts of causing or inciting child prostitution or the creation of child pornography, eight counts of producing indecent images of children, and one count of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
In his statement on the case, DC Olly Saunders from the British Transport Police expressed grave concerns about Stewart’s actions.
He revealed, “Stewart used an alias of a young boy in order to groom the girls.
Over a period of time, he exploited a number of young girls for his own sexual gratification.
The steps he took in order to lure his victims into sharing extremely personal photographs were disgraceful.
Stewart knew full well that the girls he was speaking with were below the age of 16.
When we examined his mobile phone and laptop, we uncovered some 120 indecent images and videos of children.” In addition to his prison sentence, Stewart was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order issued by Judge Anil Murray.
This order is designed to monitor and restrict Stewart’s future interactions, aiming to prevent any further harm.
This case underscores the serious consequences of online grooming and exploitation, highlighting the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies like the British Transport Police to protect minors and bring offenders like Craig Stewart to justice, especially within the Warrington area and beyond.
