A 37-year-old man named Craig Smith, who was previously jailed for physically assaulting his girlfriend by scarring her for life, has been found dead.

Craig Smith had been released earlier this year after serving half of a 10-month sentence imposed upon him in January.

His body was discovered at an address in Perth on Wednesday, and a police investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of his death.

Smith was jailed for inflicting a permanent injury on his girlfriend, Alana Brown, after smashing a teacup on her head following her taking a sip of his beer.

Perth Sheriff Court had been informed that the two had been introduced by friends and had only been dating for four months at the time of the attack.
