June 2017 Voyeur who secretly videoed woman on toilet admits filming four more victims A voyeur jailed for secretly videoing a female on the toilet today admitted violating the privacy of four more victims. Craig Melia, 25, sexually assaulted a friend after she fell asleep when they shared a cab home after a night out in Liverpool. When police searched his computer they discovered folders titled with women’s names, including that of the disgusted victim. Inside were images of her on the toilet, photographs taken up her skirt, selfies of her in a bikini and Facebook holiday snaps. Melia, formerly of St Josephs Close, Knowsley, was jailed for 27 months after admitting sexual assault and voyeurism last June. At the time, the pervert claimed he had let his attraction to the woman “get out of hand” and become an “infatuation”. But Liverpool Crown Court today heard it was actually part of a wider and even more sinister campaign of voyeurism. It involved Melia putting an old iPhone inside a shoe, hiding it in a bathroom during a party, then filming a teenager and her mum. Kim Egerton, prosecuting, said he had two videos, the first which showed the teen getting in and out of the bath and drying herself. The second showed the victim getting out of the shower, while Melia also had a collection of photographs of her on the toilet. The court heard he made a sick collage of the naked images and pictures lifted from her Facebook acount. Ms Egerton said Melia also recorded the teenager’s mum, plus two other women at the party, using the toilet. Police spoke to him in prison last October, after the four new victims confirmed the recordings were of them. Ms Egerton said: “They feel that they have been violated. All four have asked for restraining orders.” Melia, appearing via video link from HMP Liverpool, admitted five counts of voyeurism. The judge said in a pre-sentence report last June, Melia claimed it was “effectively a one-off”, due to his infatuation with his first victim. He said: “You didn’t mention you were recording other victims as well. That obviously paints the offending in a different light.” Judge Murray sentenced Melia to a further nine months behind bars, to run consecutively to his existing prison term. He told him to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for a decade and imposed 10-year restraining orders to protect his victims.
