CRAIG HORSFIELD FROM CARDIFF AND WREXHAM JAILED FOR VIOLATING SEX OFFENDER COURT ORDER

In a serious development in the ongoing efforts to monitor and control convicted sex offenders, Craig Horsfield, a 33-year-old with a troubling criminal history, found himself back in court for failing to adhere to strict legal requirements. Horsfield, originally from Cardiff but also associated with Wrexham, was brought before Mold Crown Court to answer charges related to his blatant disregard for a court-mandated Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

The incident in question occurred earlier this year in Wrexham, where Horsfield was found using a smartphone despite the court's explicit instructions to restrict his access to such devices. The court was informed that Horsfield not only used the device but also refused to cooperate with police officers when they requested to examine it. This act of defiance was considered a direct violation of the conditions set forth in his indefinite order, which was designed to prevent further harm and ensure he remains under strict supervision.

Horsfield's criminal record is extensive, with previous convictions for possessing and making indecent images of children. His criminal history includes a notable conviction in December 2017 at Cardiff Crown Court, where he was sentenced to 14 months in prison on three counts related to child exploitation images. As part of his sentence, a court order mandated the destruction of his phone and required him to comply with notification obligations for a period of ten years, a measure intended to monitor his activities and prevent reoffending.

During the recent hearing, Judge Rhys Rowlands addressed Horsfield directly, emphasizing the seriousness of his breach. Horsfield appeared in court from custody, and the judge made it clear that his failure to cooperate and the use of the smartphone in Wrexham would not be tolerated. The judge ordered Horsfield to remain in custody and scheduled a return hearing at Mold Crown Court on October 25. During this subsequent hearing, authorities planned to further investigate the contents of Horsfield's phone to determine if additional allegations or violations could be established.

The court's actions underscore the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement and the judiciary in managing individuals with a history of sexual offenses. The case highlights the importance of strict supervision and the potential consequences for those who attempt to circumvent legal restrictions designed to protect the public, especially vulnerable children. Horsfield's case remains a stark reminder of the vigilance required to prevent reoffending and ensure compliance with court orders meant to safeguard society.
