CORY THOMPSON JAILED FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN SHEFFIELD AND DERBY
A man named Cory Thompson, whose criminal actions spanned across Sheffield and Derby, has been sentenced to prison after committing serious sexual offenses. The case involved multiple victims and incidents that left a lasting impact on those affected. In July 2021, Thompson engaged in a disturbing act of sexual assault against a teenage girl in Ilkeston. The assault took place inside a vehicle, and the trauma was compounded by Thompson's subsequent threatening behavior. Later that day, he began sending the girl intimidating and harassing messages, creating an atmosphere of fear and distress. Additionally, Thompson showed up at a property where she was present, repeatedly banging on the door in an apparent attempt to intimidate or confront her.
Further allegations emerged from an incident in March 2022, when Thompson attacked a woman at a residence in Derby. During this encounter, he became aggressive, physically restraining her before raping her. The victim, in a heartfelt victim impact statement, described how her life had been profoundly altered by the assault. She stated, “Before this incident happened to me I was a confident, trusting and outgoing person. Now the slightest movement or noise scares me. I am hyper vigilant and I feel like I am constantly in a state of fight or flight. I would now say that I am extremely anxious and feel like a nervous wreck. I feel like I am just in survival mode currently and I am not actually living my life.”
Following these incidents, Thompson was arrested in connection with both cases. He was formally charged with rape and sexual assault. Despite denying the charges, he was found guilty in October after a trial held at Derby Crown Court. The court also considered allegations involving two additional victims; however, the jury was unable to reach a verdict on those charges, and they were ordered to lie on file. Thompson was acquitted of other sexual assault and harassment charges involving threats of violence.
Thompson, aged 29 and residing on Abbeydale Road in Sheffield, appeared before the same court for sentencing on December 19. The judge sentenced him to nine years and three months in prison. In addition to his incarceration, Thompson was issued restraining orders that prohibit any contact with all the women involved in the cases, aiming to protect them from further harm and harassment.
This case highlights the serious consequences of sexual violence and the justice system’s efforts to hold offenders accountable, ensuring the safety and well-being of victims in Sheffield, Derby, and beyond.
