CONOR EMMERSON COURT HEARING IN DUBLIN OVER PUBLIC ORDER INCIDENT
Conor Emmerson, aged 20, was involved in a disturbance on a Dublin city street when he pulled down his trousers in front of a female Garda and launched into a tirade, calling members of the force "paedophiles." During the incident, he also made abusive remarks about a deceased Garda colleague and reacted "completely inappropriately" when stopped for a search.Judge Bryan Smyth described Emmerson's behaviour on that day as "more than stupid" and fined him €250 for a public order offence.
Emmerson, from Killala Road, Cabra West, pleaded guilty to charges of threatening, abusive, and insulting behaviour.
The court was told the incident occurred at 8 pm on October 30, 2020.
Garda officers on duty in the northern part of the city observed two men emerging from Henrietta Lane riding a horse and carriage.
When the officers attempted to carry out a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act, Emmerson allegedly became aggressive.
According to a Garda sergeant, Emmerson pulled down his trousers and fondled himself publicly in front of a female Garda.
During the confrontation, he called the officers various names, including "paedophiles," and made threatening as well as derogatory comments about deceased Garda members.
Emmerson tried to walk away from the scene and was subsequently arrested and taken to a Garda station.
There, he expressed remorse, saying, "it was stupid," but Judge Smyth remarked, "It was more than stupid." His solicitor, Paddy McGarry, explained that Emmerson had experienced traumatic events in his past, which he believed influenced his behaviour.
He also acknowledged that Emmerson reacted in a very inappropriate manner on the day of the incident.
Additionally, the court received a letter from a doctor indicating that Emmerson had attended an appointment.
It was noted that he has a criminal record with 19 previous convictions for motoring and other offences.
