MAN SENT TO PRISON FOR ASSAULTING A WOMAN
A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to prison after admitting to attacking a woman he was dating.Connor Tough, who has no fixed address, committed multiple assaults on the woman during their brief relationship.
In January this year, Tough struck the woman’s leg, leaving a red handprint, and also stubbed out a cigarette on her hand, causing burn injuries.
He also headbutted her on another occasion and sent her numerous threatening messages.
The woman showed courage by reporting the incidents to Northamptonshire Police, leading to Tough’s arrest and formal charges.
He pleaded guilty to charges of actual bodily harm and stalking with the intent to cause anxiety or distress at Northampton Crown Court last week (September 3).
He was subsequently sentenced to a term of 36 weeks in prison.
Detective Constable Chris Gosmore, the lead investigator, expressed his satisfaction with the sentence, stating, “I am really pleased to see Connor Tough handed a custodial sentence and I hope it provides our victim with some closure.
She has been very brave in supporting our case and I hope she can now move forward onto better things.
“Tackling violence against women and girls remains a priority for Northamptonshire Police.
We are all really passionate about bringing the offenders of these crimes to justice and sending a clear message that we take a zero-tolerance approach towards domestic abuse.”
