COLIN STEVENSON FROM ROTHERHAM JAILED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Rotherham, Colin Stevenson, aged 41, has been sentenced to a significant prison term after being found guilty of possessing indecent images of children.The case was heard at Sheffield Crown Court, where Stevenson received a 40-month prison sentence following his guilty plea to multiple charges, including possession of indecent images, breaching a sexual harm prevention order, and failing to comply with notification requirements mandated by law.
The investigation into Stevenson’s activities began on March 2, 2020, when a police officer visited his residence as part of routine sex offender management procedures.
During this visit, authorities conducted a thorough inspection of his electronic devices, including a laptop, mobile phone, Kindle, and Amazon Fire Stick.
The search revealed the presence of indecent images of children stored on these devices, prompting immediate arrest and seizure of the equipment.
Further forensic analysis confirmed the existence of numerous indecent images, raising serious concerns about Stevenson’s activities.
The police continued their investigation and, on February 11, 2021, returned to his address.
During this subsequent visit, officers discovered additional devices that Stevenson had deliberately concealed and failed to disclose when instructed to do so.
These hidden devices contained over 69 indecent images of children, adding to the evidence against him.
As a result of these findings, Stevenson was handed an extended sentence of six years and four months.
This sentence comprises 40 months of imprisonment, with an extension period of three years to monitor and manage his risk as a registered sex offender.
In a related but earlier case from May 2015, Stevenson, then aged 35, was found to possess an even larger collection of illicit material.
He was caught with approximately 13,000 indecent images of children, along with hundreds of videos stored on his computer and mobile device.
The discovery was made after he fell behind on payments for a computer purchased from the retailer Perfect Home, which subsequently repossessed the device in June 2013.
Prosecutor Catherine Duffy outlined the details at Sheffield Crown Court, explaining that a technician examining the computer found a folder labeled ‘Colin’ in the recycle bin, containing numerous images of naked children.
Stevenson was arrested on the spot and admitted that his ex-boyfriend had given him two USB sticks containing the illicit files, which he had downloaded.
He claimed to have deleted the files after realizing their inappropriate content.
Stevenson, residing on Queen Avenue in Maltby, pleaded guilty to charges of making indecent photographs of children and possessing extreme pornographic images.
The court sentenced him to a community order, which includes a three-year supervision requirement, and mandated his attendance at a sexual offender treatment program.
These cases highlight the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of child exploitation material, and the serious consequences faced by those involved.
