September 2017 Judge ignores pleas for leniency A paedophile who downloaded a 35-minute video of a 10-year-old girl being raped has been jailed after a judge ignored pleas for a suspended sentence. Colin Lewis, 48, of Coach Lane in Redruth, appeared at Truro Crown Court today to be sentenced after pleading guilty to three counts of making indecent images of a child and one count of possessing indecent images of children. Prosecuting barrister Ramsay Quaife told the court how, when Devon and Cornwall Police officers launched an operation into the use of peer-to-peer software to share child abuse images, an IP address showed up linked to Lewis’ home address. Officers seized three devices and found a large number of images including 14 Category A movies, nine Category B movies and 1,744 Category C stills and 550 movies, all downloaded between August and December 2015. He was also found in possession of 14 still Category C images on March 9 of this year. Mr Quaife said: “When interviewed Mr Lewis admitted viewing child sexual abuse images and using peer-to-peer file sharing. He told police that his use of images was an addiction. “Images and movies included acts on penetration on children as young as eight and nine.” Sentencing Lewis, Jude Simon Carr said: “When your property was attended by police and computers seized police found a significant number of child abuse images and I can’t ignore the fact that some of these were Category A movies and you chose to download a 35-minute film of a nine or 10-year-old girl being engaged in full penetrative sex. “It’s a business and these girls are abused because people like you download the images and the ordeal no doubt blights the rest of their lives.” Judge Carr said that due to the large numbers of images downloaded and the fact that some were videos of the sickest kind, he had no choice but to impose an immediate custodial sentence. Lewis was sentenced to seven months in prison and told he must sign the sex offenders’ register and be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for five years.
