COLIN HOLMES FROM NOTTINGHAM AMONG THREE SENTENCED OVER SEXUAL MESSAGES TO 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN EDINBURGH

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community, Colin Holmes, a resident of Nottingham, has been among three men sentenced for engaging in inappropriate and sexual communications with a teenage girl.

The incident dates back to 2006, but the legal proceedings and sentencing took place more recently, highlighting ongoing concerns about online safety and the exploitation of minors.

In December 2008, Holmes, aged 25 at the time, along with Michael Henderson, 32, and Barron Wright, 20, faced charges after it was revealed they had sent sexually explicit messages to a girl who was only 14 years old.

The girl, who had posted topless photographs of herself on the internet, had called herself “The Edinburgh Whore” on the Faceparty website, which is intended for users over the age of 16.

Her online activity attracted responses from numerous men across the country, leading to a series of disturbing interactions.

The three men, including Holmes from Nottingham, were charged with communicating in a sexual manner with a minor under the age of 16 via the internet.

All three pleaded guilty to these charges during their appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

The court proceedings revealed that the conversations between the men and the girl had become increasingly sexualized over a period from March to August 2006.

During the sentencing, Sheriff Douglas Allan imposed probation periods on each of the men.

Henderson and Holmes received three years’ probation, while Wright was given a two-and-a-half-year probation term.

The court also mandated that all three attend specialized sex offenders’ programs and register as sex offenders for the duration of their probation.

Furthermore, they are required to allow police access to examine their computers at any time to ensure compliance with the court’s orders.

Sheriff Allan addressed the court, stating, “The question of this being made an offence and the fact that there appears to be no defence to it I know is troubling you.

It may seem a little unfair to you but the reality is that this girl was not over 16.

Her own conduct raises all sorts of questions but they are not for me to deal with in this court.” Details of the case indicated that the men had contacted the girl through various means, including mobile phones.

Henderson, who is a baker from Aberdeenshire, had phone conversations with her and even suggested meeting her for sex, believing she was over 16 because she had a tattoo.

Holmes from Nottingham claimed he presumed she was over 16, while Wright from Crewe, Cheshire, expressed deep regret for his actions, according to his solicitor.

It is also noteworthy that earlier in the year, three other men faced jail sentences at the High Court in Paisley after admitting to sexually abusing the same girl.

Gary Wilson, 41, from County Durham, admitted to having sex with her when she was just 13 after contacting her through Faceparty.

Martin Murray, 36, from Irvine, was sentenced to two years after he committed a sex act with her and took explicit photographs on his mobile phone.

Daniel Walker, 33, from Glasgow, was jailed for 18 months after sending messages to her.

This case underscores the dangers of online interactions with minors and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable young people from exploitation and abuse.
