COLIN HODGSON FROM COLCHESTER SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE AND INDECENT IMAGES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Colchester, a 61-year-old man named Colin Hodgson has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after being found guilty of multiple serious offenses involving child abuse and the possession of indecent images. The sentencing took place on Friday, January 5, following a detailed investigation that uncovered the extent of Hodgson's criminal activities.
Hodgson admitted to and was convicted of five counts of sexually assaulting a young girl, with the abuse spanning from when she was just 18 months old until she reached the age of three.
Additionally, he pleaded guilty to three counts of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, as well as three counts of creating and possessing indecent images of children.
These charges paint a grim picture of the severity of his crimes and the harm inflicted upon the victim.
The case was prosecuted by Terence Woods QC, who provided details about the investigation.
He revealed that around Christmas of 2016, the victim’s grandmother confided in a social worker that Hodgson had asked the young girl if she wanted to take a bath with him, raising immediate concerns about potential abuse.
This disclosure prompted further scrutiny and investigation into Hodgson’s activities.
On August 19, 2017, authorities traced internet activity linked to Hodgson’s IP address, which was found to have been used to access indecent images of children.
A search warrant was executed on November 7 of the same year, leading to the seizure of multiple electronic devices, including two laptops and two hard drives.
The forensic analysis of these devices revealed a horrifying collection of over 100,000 images, many of which depicted very young girls, some under the age of three.
Among these images were disturbing photographs of the victim being touched by an adult hand and engaging in sexual acts, including the use of a vibrator on her vagina.
Shockingly, some images featured the girl as young as 18 months old.
The devices contained numerous images of the victim, with over 56 photographs specifically depicting her.
The severity of the abuse and the nature of the images underscored the gravity of Hodgson’s crimes.
The judge presiding over the case, Judge Jonathan Seeley, described the impact on the victim, noting her extreme anxiety around adult men and emphasizing the heinousness of the abuse.
He acknowledged Hodgson’s guilty pleas and apparent remorse, which he considered as mitigating factors.
Judge Seeley sentenced Hodgson to a total of six and a half years for inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and an additional 16 months for creating and possessing indecent images of children.
The sentences are to run consecutively, resulting in a combined imprisonment term that reflects the seriousness of his offenses and the harm caused to the young victim and the community of Colchester.
