COLIN HODGE FROM PLYMOUTH CAUGHT IN PAEDOPHILE STING AT BLACKPOOL TRAIN STATION
In a significant development in ongoing efforts to combat online child exploitation, Colin John Hodge, a 56-year-old resident of Plymouth, was finally brought before the courts after a series of disturbing events that unfolded in Blackpool.Hodge, who was already a registered sex offender due to a prior conviction involving indecent images of children, found himself at the center of a police operation aimed at catching individuals attempting to meet minors for sexual purposes.
According to court records, Hodge appeared at Blackpool Magistrates Court where he did not enter a plea to the charges brought against him.
The charges include attempting to meet a female under the age of 16 following grooming, as well as three counts of possessing indecent images of children.
The case has since been transferred to Preston Crown Court for further proceedings.
The court was informed that Hodge, who had previously been convicted and placed on the sex offenders register, engaged in online communication with what he believed was a 13-year-old girl in 2018.
The communication was initiated via an online application, and Hodge proceeded to send numerous highly sexually explicit messages, clearly indicating his intent to groom the minor and engage in sexual activity.
During the exchanges, Hodge shockingly claimed to the girl that he had also sexually assaulted his own daughter, a statement he later clarified as mere fantasy, asserting that it did not actually happen.
After weeks of grooming and manipulation, Hodge arranged to meet the girl at Plymouth train station, a plan that was ultimately thwarted.
When Hodge arrived at the station, he was confronted by members of a paedophile hunting team known as The UK Database.
The team questioned him about his online activities, specifically whether he was speaking to any underage girls.
Hodge confirmed that he was, stating that the girl was 13 years old.
The team explained that they were acting on behalf of another organization called No More Silent Voices, which had set up the online account used to communicate with Hodge.
Following this confrontation, the team contacted the police, leading to Hodge’s immediate arrest.
Further investigation into Hodge’s devices revealed evidence of child sexual abuse images depicting very young girls.
These findings added to the severity of his charges and underscored the importance of the operation.
Hodge was scheduled to appear in court earlier this year regarding these allegations but went on the run, evading law enforcement authorities.
It was only at the end of June that he was located and taken into custody once again.
After his latest court appearance, Hodge was granted conditional bail, with a future court date set at Preston Crown Court for trial proceedings.
The case continues to highlight the ongoing efforts by law enforcement and community organizations to protect children from online predators and bring offenders to justice.
