CARDIFF MAN SPARED JAIL FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGE DOWNLOADS
A man named Colin Eastman, aged 40, was convicted of downloading images of serious child abuse at Cardiff Crown Court. He faced 21 charges of making indecent images of children and one count of possessing such images.
The images ranged from level one to the most severe level five, with 12 of the images being in the top-level category.
Although found guilty, Eastman was spared jail after court proceedings, with the judge describing him as a 'low risk' of reoffending and 'wholly compliant' during the process.
The judge imposed a two-year community order, including 200 hours of unpaid community work, supervision, and one-to-one sessions with a specialized probation officer.
Additionally, a Sexual Offences Prevention Order was granted, restricting Eastman’s access to computer images for five years.
The court emphasized that breaching this order could lead to custody.
Eastman’s defense highlighted that no evidence proved he deliberately downloaded or viewed individual images, and experts suggested the images were likely downloaded in sessions without his direct responsibility.
The case caused significant personal and social repercussions for Eastman, including involvement of social services and potential job loss as a result of his actions.
