SHEFFIELD MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF POLISH STUDENT
A man named Colin Campbell, aged 29, was sentenced to life imprisonment after he murdered his girlfriend, Weronika Gospodarczyk, who was a Polish student.
The court heard that Campbell had been consumed by jealousy and resentment, which ultimately led to him stabbing Miss Gospodarczyk 44 times at her Sheffield flat in September.
The victim had told him she wanted to end their relationship and had received a text message from a friend.
Campbell was found to have repeatedly stabbed her with a kitchen knife.
During the court proceedings, Campbell admitted to the murder.
The judge, Mrs Justice Rafferty, stated: "This was an attack, founded in resentment and jealousy, on a young woman whom you sought to possess." The court was told that Campbell had shown signs of jealousy throughout their tumultuous relationship and would sometimes self-harm to gain sympathy.
A neighbor reported witnessing Campbell attacking Miss Gospodarczyk and said he appeared to have "lost all control." When questioned by police, Campbell claimed, "She said she was going to leave me." The family of Weronika Gospodarczyk expressed their sorrow, emphasizing her gentle, joyful nature and her lifelong dream to study in England.
Campbell was ordered to serve a minimum of 15 years before being eligible for parole.
