CODY-ANNE JACKSON SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC MURDER OF TWO-YEAR-OLD IN FENTON
In a tragic and disturbing case that has shocked the community of Fenton, Staffordshire, Cody-Anne Jackson has been sentenced to a minimum of 16 years in prison for the brutal suffocation of her two-year-old daughter, Macey Hogan. The heartbreaking incident unfolded on October 10 of the previous year, when authorities from Staffordshire Police responded to a distress call and subsequently gained entry into Jackson's residence on Packett Street, Fenton.Upon entering the home, officers discovered the lifeless body of young Macey, whose death was confirmed at the scene. Jackson was found nearby with superficial injuries, and she had written a suicide note that revealed her feelings of despair and resentment. The note indicated her emotional turmoil and her perception of her circumstances, which she expressed as a desire to end her life. Jackson had also sent a final message to her ex-partner, Paul Hogan, claiming she was sharing “one last picture and memory of her” with him.
During the court proceedings at Staffordshire Crown Court, it was revealed that Jackson’s actions were premeditated and driven by her emotional state following the end of her relationship with Hogan, which had occurred just a week prior. The judge described her act as “wicked and appalling,” emphasizing that Jackson was not suffering from any mental illness at the time but was instead acting out of self-absorption and emotional distress. The court heard that Jackson had also attempted to take her own life, claiming she awoke to find her daughter’s body lying in her bed, positioned between two pillows.
The police and court testimonies painted a picture of a cold and calculated act, with many describing the killing as an act of revenge against Hogan. The tragedy was further compounded by the fact that Macey, a young child, was robbed of her childhood and the happiness she deserved. An NSPCC spokesperson condemned the incident, stating that Macey’s innocence was taken away in a moment of unimaginable cruelty.
Judge Michael Chambers QC sentenced Jackson to life imprisonment, condemning her behavior as “utterly self-absorbed” and highlighting the severity of her crime—killing her own child to prevent her from living without her. The court acknowledged her guilty plea and recognized the courage it took for her to admit her guilt during the proceedings. This case has left a lasting scar on the community of Fenton, serving as a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of unchecked emotional turmoil and violence against the most vulnerable.
