CODY ACKLAND FROM PLYMOUTH PLEADS GUILTY TO TEEN'S MURDER IN SHOCKING CASE
In a tragic and disturbing case that has shocked the community of Plymouth, Cody Ackland, aged 24, has admitted guilt to the murder of 18-year-old Bobbi-Anne McLeod. The details of this heinous crime have been revealed through court proceedings and police reports, painting a grim picture of a young woman’s final moments and the subsequent investigation.
According to authorities, Ackland, who was a complete stranger to Bobbi-Anne, carried out a brutal attack after luring her into his vehicle.
The incident took place on the evening of November 20 last year, when Bobbi-Anne left her home in Leigham around 6 pm to meet her boyfriend, 17-year-old Louie Leach, in Plymouth.
Unbeknownst to her, Ackland was waiting nearby, and he managed to persuade her to get into his car.
Once inside, he subjected her to a relentless assault, beating her repeatedly with a blunt instrument in a violent attack that ultimately resulted in her death.
Following the murder, Ackland attempted to evade justice by concealing her body.
He hid her in woodland near a lane close to the local beach, in a desperate effort to avoid detection.
The disappearance of Bobbi-Anne prompted a large-scale search operation, as her phone, bus ticket, and headphones were found abandoned at the scene, raising alarms and mobilizing police efforts.
Despite tracing her phone, authorities were initially unable to determine her exact location within Plymouth.
However, the case took a dramatic turn when Ackland voluntarily approached the police three days later.
He walked into a police station and confessed to the crime, revealing the location of Bobbi-Anne’s body in a wooded area near the beach.
This confession led to his arrest and subsequent charges of murder.
During a court appearance, Ackland pleaded guilty to the charges, sparing the court the need for a trial.
The sentencing hearing was scheduled for May 19, with the court awaiting a psychiatric report that could influence the minimum term of his life sentence.
Ackland, who resides on Radcliffe Close, Southway, Plymouth, was remanded into custody following the hearing.
Judge Robert Linford emphasized that Ackland’s guilty plea fixed the sentence by law, and he would be sentenced to life imprisonment, with the minimum term to be determined based on further evidence, including a neuropathologist’s report.
The judge also expressed appreciation for the public’s conduct during the proceedings.
Family members of Bobbi-Anne, including her mother Donna McLeod, father, and brother, attended the hearing in person, with her mother visibly distressed and tearful throughout the brief session.
Friends of the victim watched the proceedings via video link from an adjacent court room.
The prosecution, represented by Mr.
Posner, stated that they would not pursue a trial on the kidnapping charge, as Ackland had already pleaded guilty to murder.
The court was informed that additional evidence from a psychiatric evaluation was pending, which would be used to determine the exact minimum term of Ackland’s life sentence.
The case has left the community of Plymouth mourning the loss of a young life and questioning the circumstances that led to such a tragic event.
