CLIVE BROWNING FROM GLASTONBURY SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG GIRL IN BRISTOL AND TAUNTON

In March 2020, a 74-year-old man from Glastonbury, identified as Clive Browning, was sentenced to a decade behind bars after being convicted of multiple sexual offences committed against a young girl. The sentencing took place at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday, March 3, following a conviction on four counts of indecent assault that had been previously determined by Taunton Crown Court in January.

Clive Browning, who resides in Edgarley near Glastonbury, was found guilty of abusing the trust placed in him as a caregiver. The offences involved a girl who was between the ages of 11 and 14 at the time of the incidents. The court heard that Browning repeatedly assaulted the young girl, betraying her trust and causing profound harm.

Detective Constable Jon Hooper expressed his satisfaction with the court’s decision, stating, “I am pleased with the decision of the court to jail Clive Browning for 10 years for non-recent sexual offences he committed on a young girl.” He emphasized that the victim was entrusted to Browning’s care and that his actions represented a grave breach of that trust.

DC Hooper further explained that Browning showed no remorse or willingness to accept responsibility for his actions. The victim, who was unable to confide in her parents at the time, endured the trauma in silence until she gained the strength and confidence to come forward and report the abuse. Her bravery in doing so was highlighted as a significant and commendable act.
