CLINTON DAVIES SHOCKS CARDIFF WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT AND STALKING INCIDENTS
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Cardiff community, 55-year-old Clinton Davies was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman at a local hostel and engaging in persistent stalking behavior. The incident unfolded when Davies called the victim into his room under the false pretense that he needed her assistance.
Once inside, he unzipped her hoodie and groped her breast over her clothing, an act that left the victim deeply traumatized.
The court heard that the assault occurred despite the victim explicitly expressing her desire to leave and her clear discomfort.
During the hearing at Cardiff Crown Court, it was revealed that a concerned man knocked on the door of the room, prompting Davies to dismiss him with the words, "Go away, I'm busy." Fortunately, the man entered the room shortly after, providing the victim with an opportunity to escape from the situation.
Witnesses described Davies as breathing heavily, with his trousers unfastened and a sealed condom packet visible on the table, indicating a possible intent or previous sexual activity.
When confronted, Davies turned to the man and remarked, "This is going to cause trouble," before attempting to change the subject when questioned about his actions.
Prosecutor Harry Baker detailed the extent of Davies' harassment, revealing that he had obtained the victim’s phone number and had been relentlessly contacting her over several days through calls, text messages, and voicemails.
Despite the victim’s repeated pleas for him to cease communication, Davies continued to send crude and sexually explicit messages.
On one particularly distressing day, he made 20 calls to her.
The victim expressed her fear that Davies would persist in his unwanted contact, which has severely impacted her mental health.
She described feeling distressed, upset, and suffering from panic attacks, with her mental well-being deteriorating to the point where she felt suicidal.
She also shared her ongoing fear whenever someone knocks at her door, highlighting the lasting emotional scars caused by Davies’ actions.
Clinton Davies, who originally hails from South Africa, was arrested and taken in for questioning.
During the interview, he claimed not to remember the assault, attributing his memory loss to the influence of cocaine and alcohol, which he admitted had been consumed in significant quantities—£50 worth of cocaine and 20 pints of alcohol.
Despite his claims of amnesia, Davies later pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault and stalking.
The court was informed that he has a history of previous convictions, including exposing himself in the United States and repeated harassment offenses.
Additionally, he is currently in breach of a suspended sentence, complicating his legal situation further.
In mitigation, Andrew Davies, representing the defendant, argued that Clinton Davies had not physically touched the victim’s naked breast and claimed that his client did not remember the incident.
He highlighted Davies’ prior contributions to the community, including work at food banks and other charitable activities.
However, the court was not swayed from imposing a stern sentence.
Recorder Caroline Rees KC sentenced Clinton Davies to a total of 32 weeks in prison.
Furthermore, she imposed a five-year restraining order to prevent any contact with the victim and mandated sex offender notification requirements for seven years, emphasizing the seriousness of his offenses and the need for ongoing monitoring to protect the public from further harm.
