PLYMOUTH MAN JAILED FOR OBSESSIVE STALKING OF WOMAN
Clifford Floyd, a 58-year-old man from Ormonds Close, Bristol, was found guilty at Plymouth Crown Court of persistent stalking and harassment of a woman with whom he had only one date.Following their encounter, Floyd bombarded her with nearly fifty voicemail messages over several months in 2023, despite her blocking his number.
He also visited her workplace to deliver an unwanted gift worth around £300, a Dyson hair tool, along with a card claiming he bought it while out shopping.
The woman, who remains unidentified for legal reasons, told police she felt uneasy and told Floyd to "never come to my workplace again" after unblocking him.
However, he continued to make contact, sending voicemails where he expressed his love for her, saying: "I did fall in love with you when I saw you that day and I thought I was a bit bonkers, but I don't think I was.
Because I love you, darling.
I love you with all my heart and there's not another person I want to be with, hold hands with, kiss — do you remember our first kiss?".
Floyd was finally arrested on October 19 after claiming in a voicemail that he was "ordered by God" to call her and that she "may be in danger", stating: "God had told me to head down to Plymouth...and I'm on my way." The court sentenced him for stalking and ordered him not to return to Plymouth once released, reflecting the outcome of his conduct.
