CHRISTOPHER WADE SENTENCED FOR SHOCKING SEXUAL CRIMES IN MERSEYSIDE
Christopher Wade, a 54-year-old man of no fixed address, faced a serious criminal trial at Liverpool Crown Court, where he was found guilty of multiple sexual offences. The trial concluded in February, and Wade was subsequently sentenced on Tuesday, 14 March.
As part of his punishment, he was also served with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a Sex Offender Notification Order that will remain in effect for the rest of his life.
The incident in question occurred late in the evening of Friday, 12 August 2022, in Southport, a busy town within the Merseyside area.
Wade notably approached a teenage girl in the town centre around 10:30 pm.
Exploiting her vulnerable state, he purchased alcohol and supplied her with drugs, which rendered her incapacitated.
Taking advantage of her condition, Wade then subjected her to a brutal sexual assault in a nearby park.
During this heinous act, Wade raped her and also committed an assault by penetration, causing significant trauma to the young victim.
After the assault, the girl was left sitting alone on a bench in the park.
Despite her distress, she managed to alert a passing taxi driver to what had transpired.
The taxi driver’s quick response led to authorities being called immediately, sparing the girl further harm and initiating a thorough police investigation.
An extensive investigative process was undertaken following the incident.
Law enforcement used forensic evidence, CCTV footage, and witness testimonies to build a case against Wade.
After a detailed review and painstaking enquiries, Wade was officially tried and found guilty last month of rape, assault by penetration, and sexual assault.
In response to Wade’s conviction, Detective Constable Jennifer Guest addressed the importance of justice for the victim.
She stated, “Today’s sentence hopefully gives the victim some comfort as she continues to recover from this traumatic and deeply damaging ordeal, and we will continue to support her going forward.
We recognise the profound impact such serious crime has on victims, and hopefully she will in time gain strength and a brighter future.” DC Guest further emphasized Wade’s predatory behavior, noting, “Wade preyed on and exploited this vulnerable young girl, using drugs and alcohol to lure her away from a public place, and then added to her suffering through the ordeal of an investigation and trial.” She condemned Wade’s actions as callous and highlighted the threat he poses to the community.
“He showed callous disregard for his victim and is clearly a significant danger to the public.
Wade will now be serving a sentence which reflects the gravity of his crimes, and one which will protect the public.” The detective also expressed gratitude towards the taxi driver who responded compassionately that night.
“We’d also like to thank the taxi driver who showed compassion in looking after the victim and calling police on the night.
His swift actions helped our investigation immensely.” Furthermore, DC Guest assured that the authorities remain committed to protecting victims of sexual offences.
“We are dedicated to safeguarding and supporting anyone who reports such crimes.
If anyone has been a victim or is concerned about someone’s safety, they are urged to contact us.
While reporting a sexual offence can be difficult, rest assured our team will handle your case with professionalism and compassion, doing everything possible to bring offenders to justice.”
