CHRISTOPHER STOVOLD FROM CHESHUNT AND WALTHAM CROSS SENTENCED IN MILTON KEYNES FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING TEENAGE GIRL

On June 2012, Christopher Stovold, a 60-year-old interior designer with ties to Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, and Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, was found guilty of abusing a 13-year-old girl in Milton Keynes. The victim, now 17, had been subjected to multiple acts of sexual assault by Stovold during the period when she was only 13 years old. The offences included inappropriate physical contact, such as kissing her with his tongue inserted into her mouth, as well as stroking her neck and other parts of her body. These disturbing acts took place in Milton Keynes, and the case drew significant attention due to the severity of the allegations and the age of the victim.

Stovold initially faced a trial scheduled to last three days before Judge Francis Sheridan at Aylesbury Crown Court. However, during proceedings, he changed his plea from not guilty to guilty on one of the charges, leading to a resolution without the need for a full trial. He admitted to two counts of indecent assault and one count of indecency with a child. The court heard that Stovold had previously acknowledged two of these charges, but the guilty plea on the third was a pivotal moment in the case.

In court, the judge expressed profound disapproval of Stovold’s actions, stating that he could not comprehend how a man could behave in such a manner towards a child. The victim’s mother, who spoke to the press, described the ordeal as “horrendous” and expressed her relief that her daughter did not have to testify in court. She shared her feelings of devastation upon learning of the abuse, recounting her initial shock when her daughter confided in her about the kisses and inappropriate contact. Despite the trauma, she praised her daughter’s strength and resilience, emphasizing her pride in her.

Following the guilty plea, Stovold appeared before the court once more on June 7th, where he was sentenced to 27 months in prison. The court also imposed a sexual offender prevention order, a restraining order, and automatic disqualification from working with children. Additionally, a geographical exclusion order was considered, which would restrict his movements within certain areas. As part of his sentencing, Stovold was ordered to register as a sex offender and was subjected to bail conditions that limited his activities in Milton Keynes.

Judge Sheridan announced that the victim would be welcome to attend the sentencing hearing scheduled for June 15th, as her presence might aid her in achieving closure. The court’s decision underscores the importance of giving victims a voice and supporting their recovery process. The mother of the victim urged anyone who has experienced or is experiencing sexual abuse to come forward, emphasizing that police and authorities take such cases seriously. She expressed her hope that sharing her daughter’s story would encourage others to seek help and report abuse, reinforcing that silence is not the answer and that justice can be served.
