CHRISTOPHER STOREY'S VIOLENT RAMPAGE IN REDCAR LEADS TO JAIL SENTENCE
A man from Redcar, Christopher Storey, has been sentenced to prison after a series of violent and abusive acts directed towards his partner. The incident, which took place in their shared home, was marked by a disturbing display of jealousy and aggression that culminated in physical assault and emotional torment.According to court proceedings at Teesside Crown Court, Storey, aged 41 and residing on Simpson Close in South Bank, Middlesbrough, became increasingly enraged during a night out following a party in Redcar. The reason for his fury stemmed from his suspicion that other men at the gathering had previously asked his girlfriend out. This suspicion led to relentless questioning and ultimately violent behavior as they made their way back home on April 27 of the previous year.
Prosecutor Adrian Strong detailed the harrowing events that unfolded once they reached the woman’s residence. Inside her bedroom, with her children present, Storey’s anger erupted into violence. He reportedly jumped onto the bed and began to choke her, placing both hands around her throat. The court heard that she was unable to speak and struggled to breathe, which caused her to panic. During this assault, Storey was shouting, further escalating the situation. The woman managed to break free from his grip, but the violence did not end there. Storey responded by punching himself in the head, a sign of his disturbed state.
During the incident, Storey took her mobile phone and, when she requested its return, he threw it at her, resulting in bruising beneath her eye. Despite the severity of the violence, the couple continued their relationship until July 6, when a subsequent altercation occurred after a day of drinking together. The argument was triggered when Storey accused her of taking cocaine, a claim she denied. In response, she removed her engagement ring and told him, “We’re done.”
His reaction was violent once again. Mr. Strong explained that Storey took his drink and threw the contents, and then the empty glass, into her face, causing a cut above her lip and a bruise on her chin. This incident took place in a pub in Redcar, where Storey was ejected, and police were called. However, the woman chose not to press formal charges at that time. She stayed at a friend’s house that night, but the following morning, Storey was found at her home refusing to leave. Despite being arrested and bailed later that day, Storey violated the bail conditions by attempting to contact her multiple times using his phone.
During earlier court hearings, Storey pleaded guilty to three charges: intentional strangulation, unlawful wounding, and harassment. His defense attorney, Gary Wood, acknowledged his client’s remorse and explained that his violent behavior was linked to issues with alcohol. He noted that Storey had been actively working with Alcoholics Anonymous and other substance misuse organizations both before and during his time in custody.
It was also revealed that Storey had previous convictions related to assault and harassment involving two other former partners, indicating a pattern of abusive behavior. Judge Francis Clews sentenced him to a total of two years in prison and imposed a ten-year restraining order to prevent him from contacting the victim. The judge condemned his conduct, stating, “This is a sorry tale. Your treatment of her was appalling over a period of time. Any person in a relationship with somebody else is entitled to feel safe, particularly in their own home, and there is never any justification or excuse for using violence, particularly on someone less strong and able to defend themselves than you.”
