WANTED SEX OFFENDER CAUGHT AFTER SIX MONTHS ON THE RUN
UPDATE 05/01/2026: Christopher Spelman initiated a police search after neglecting his obligation to notify authorities as a sex offender. An appeal was issued in July 2025 to locate the 66-year-old, who has connections to Lancaster, Merseyside, Manchester, Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Hampshire, and Wiltshire.
Spelman was released from incarceration near Weymouth, Dorset, but did not register a residence with law enforcement, violating his notification duties.
Lancashire Police indicated that he was likely traveling and residing in a tent, prompting appeals for sightings at campsites and transportation points.
In an official statement released today (January 6), police revealed that Spelman was detained in South Wales on January 3.
He appeared before court on Monday and admitted to breaching his sex offender notification obligations.
He has been kept in custody and is scheduled to face sentencing at Swansea Crown Court later this month.
————————————————————————- In December 2016, authorities issued a public appeal for assistance in locating Christopher Spelman, a convicted sex offender who is currently wanted by the police.
Spelman, aged 57, has a history of serious sexual offenses and is known to have links across several regions, including Liverpool, Staffordshire, and Cheshire.
Spelman’s criminal record dates back to 2014 when he was convicted of multiple sex offenses involving a girl under the age of 14.
These offenses took place in Carnforth, and since then, he has been subject to strict notification requirements under the law.
As part of his release conditions, he was mandated to register his new address in Cheshire with the authorities.
However, he failed to comply with this legal obligation, which has now led to his status as a wanted individual.
According to Detective Sergeant Angela Grey from the Sex Offenders Management Unit, law enforcement officials are actively seeking information from the public.
She emphasized the importance of community assistance, stating, “We need anyone who may have seen Christopher Spelman or knows of his whereabouts to come forward.” She also issued a direct appeal to Spelman himself, urging him to surrender voluntarily, saying, “Spelman knows he should have gone to his new address to register and so I would also urge him if he sees this appeal to hand himself in at his nearest police station.” Authorities believe that Spelman may have altered his appearance, possibly growing a full beard, and he has previously been known to camp outdoors, which could make him more difficult to locate.
His known links to Liverpool, Staffordshire, and Cheshire suggest he may be moving between these areas.
