In December 2019, a man from Thorney named Christopher Sellers was sentenced to a year in prison after committing a disturbing sexual offense at a sports centre in Peterborough. The incident involved Sellers, who was 70 years old at the time, approaching an eight-year-old girl during her visit to the sports facility.

According to reports, the young girl was at the sports centre watching a sporting event when Sellers approached her. Without warning, he exposed himself to her and then proceeded to assault her, actions that caused significant distress to the young victim. The girl, after leaving the sports centre, confided in her parents about the traumatic experience, prompting an investigation.

Authorities identified Christopher Sellers, a resident of St Mary’s Close in Thorney, as the perpetrator. He was charged with sexual assault and indecent exposure, to which he pleaded guilty. The case was brought before Cambridge Crown Court, where Sellers was sentenced on Friday, December 12.
