CHRISTOPHER SCOTT FROM NOTTINGHAM SENTENCED FOR DECADES-OLD SEX ATTACKS IN NOTTINGHAM AND MANSFIELD ROAD

In a significant development in cold case justice, Christopher Scott, a man with a troubling history linked to Nottingham, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a series of heinous sexual assaults committed in the early 1990s.

The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about his crimes, which spanned over a period of time and left lasting trauma on his victims.

Scott, now 65 years old, admitted to kidnapping and raping an 18-year-old university student in 1992 during a hearing held in May of the previous year.

The incident took place on Mansfield Road in Nottingham, where the young woman was waiting at a bus stop en route to meet her boyfriend.

Scott forcibly grabbed her, forcing her into his vehicle, and drove her to a nearby country park.

There, he subjected her to two separate acts of sexual assault.

Scott dismissed these acts as “just sex” during the court proceedings, showing a disturbing lack of remorse.

After the assaults, he left her near her home in Nottingham.

Prior to this, Scott was involved in another disturbing incident approximately a month earlier.

On Mapperley Hall Drive in Nottingham, he punched a 17-year-old girl in the face and inappropriately touched her.

Her screams caused him to flee the scene, but the trauma of the encounter was profound.

The victims’ accounts painted a picture of a man who was both violent and predatory.

Scott’s criminal activities remained hidden for over two decades until police managed to link him to the crimes through DNA evidence.

The breakthrough came in July 2016 when officers arrested him during a domestic incident involving his adult son.

At that time, DNA samples taken from Scott matched those collected from the crime scenes in the 1990s, with the court describing the match as a “billion to one” chance that the DNA did not belong to him.

During the court hearings, Scott faced multiple charges, including one count of robbery, kidnapping, and two counts of rape related to the 18-year-old victim.

Additionally, he was convicted of indecent assault, attempted kidnapping, and assault against the 17-year-old girl.

The jury’s verdict was delivered on January 19, with Scott’s demeanor in court described as smug, despite the gravity of his crimes.

Mrs.

Justice Carr, presiding over the case at Nottingham Crown Court, delivered a stern judgment, condemning Scott’s actions as brutal, violent, and sustained.

She emphasized the long-term impact on the victims, stating, “These were two horrifying attacks which caused terror at the time and have caused them long-term trauma and suffering.” She also criticized Scott’s attitude, noting that he had concealed his guilt for many years and displayed arrogance and dismissiveness towards his crimes.

The judge further expressed her concern about Scott’s potential danger to the public, especially women.

Scott, who was dressed in a check short-sleeve shirt and originally from Billesdon Drive in Nottingham, appeared to fidget as the prosecutor recounted the details of the crimes.

The prosecutor, Adrian Langdale, explained that Scott was only eventually identified through a mistake—his DNA was not linked to the crimes for many years until a domestic incident involving his son led to the collection of a DNA sample.

The impact on the victims was profound.

The 18-year-old victim described her experience as “the worst thing I have ever been through,” noting that although the assault lasted a short time, its repercussions persisted for years.

She revealed that she was physically sick from the shock and avoided leaving her house alone for over a year.

The sense of vulnerability and discomfort continues to affect her daily life.

The 17-year-old victim also shared her feelings of violation, distress, and intense anger following her attack.

In a related case from January 2018, Scott was found guilty of a second sex attack from 1992, which had been brought to light through a BBC Crimewatch appeal in 2008.

The renewed attention led to a second victim coming forward, revealing that Scott had attacked her on Mapperley Hall Drive in Nottingham in September 1992.

During that incident, he attempted to drag her away but fled when she screamed.

This attack occurred just a month before the first case he was convicted of in 2017, where he used a knife to threaten an 18-year-old woman at a bus stop, tying her up and raping her twice.

DNA evidence played a crucial role in linking Scott to these crimes.

The DNA sample from the September 1992 attack was only matched to Scott in 2016, after which he admitted to the October 1992 assault.

The victim from September recognized a custody photograph posted online and reported the incident to police.

Superintendent Rob Griffin expressed relief and satisfaction, stating, “It is absolutely fantastic news for the two victims, who for 25 years have wondered who attacked them.

Well now they know and they have seen him convicted today.

But the wider message is; it doesn’t matter how much time has passed, offenders will still be brought to justice.” Scott is scheduled to be sentenced for both crimes on February 15, 2018, marking a significant milestone in the pursuit of justice for his victims and a reminder that time does not diminish accountability for such serious offenses.
