CHRISTOPHER ROLLINGS FROM WINSFORD SENTENCED TO 21 YEARS FOR SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING YOUNG GIRLS

In a significant case brought before Chester Crown Court, a 77-year-old man from Winsford, Christopher Rollings, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 21 years for a series of heinous sexual offences committed against three young girls. The court heard that Rollings, who resides on Wharton Road in Winsford, had engaged in these reprehensible acts over a span of 15 years, from 1968 to 1983, betraying the trust of his young victims and causing lifelong trauma.

During the proceedings held on a recent Thursday, Judge Patrick Thompson described Rollings as an ‘arrogant liar’ and emphasized the gravity of his crimes. The court was informed that the defendant’s actions had a profound and lasting impact on the victims, with one describing how he ‘took her childhood from her’. The emotional toll was further detailed through a victim impact statement read aloud by prosecutor John Philpotts, who highlighted that one of the victims has been suffering from anxiety and depression as a direct consequence of the abuse.

Another victim recounted her struggles with trust issues and nightmares from her childhood, which hindered her ability to form physical and emotional intimacy with others. These testimonies underscored the devastating effects of Rollings’ actions, which had long-term repercussions on their mental health and well-being.

The court also heard that in 2019, authorities discovered indecent images of children on Rollings’ computer, further implicating him in sexual misconduct. This evidence added to the case against him and revealed the extent of his inappropriate interests.

Throughout the trial, Rollings maintained an attitude of arrogance, attempting to dismiss the victims’ accounts and claiming they were lying. However, Judge Thompson was unequivocal in his condemnation, stating, “The only liar I’m afraid is you,” as he delivered the sentence. The judge pointed out that the victims’ courage in speaking out had uncovered Rollings’ disturbing sexual interest in children, which was evidenced by the material found on his computer.

As part of his sentence, Rollings will serve a total of 21 years in prison, followed by an extended licence period of one year. Additionally, he will be required to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. The judge concluded the hearing by commending the bravery of the victims, expressing hope that they will now be able to look forward to brighter and happier futures, free from the shadow of their past trauma.
