CHRISTOPHER RADFORD SHOCKS SHELTON WITH BAIL BREACH AT STOKE-ON-TRENT CROWN COURT

In a recent development at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, Christopher Radford, a known sex offender from Shelton, found himself back in the courtroom after violating the strict conditions of his bail. The breach involved Radford being left unsupervised with a young boy, raising serious concerns about his compliance with the legal restrictions placed upon him.

Radford, aged 31, appeared before the court for sentencing following his admission to two separate offences related to failing to adhere to the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders’ Register. These offences spanned from August 1 of the previous year to June 6 of the current year. The court was informed that Radford had moved into an address where a child was residing, which was a clear violation of the conditions set to monitor his movements and associations.

The circumstances leading to this breach involved Radford’s relationship with a woman who had a son. After establishing this relationship, Radford moved into her residence in Shelton, where he was subsequently left unsupervised with the young boy. This situation was particularly troubling given Radford’s criminal history, which includes a conviction and imprisonment in 2010 for causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, as well as a separate offence of sexual activity with a child.

During the court proceedings, Heather Drew, representing Radford, emphasized that her client had been involved in a physical relationship with the child's mother and that there was no suggestion of any inappropriate dealings with the child himself. Despite this, the court was concerned about the potential risks and the breach of the legal restrictions designed to protect vulnerable individuals.

Judge David Fletcher addressed the court, noting that Radford had deceived authorities by continuing to pay rent on his Shelton residence, thereby giving the false impression that he was still living there. This act of deception was viewed as a serious breach of trust and compliance.

In a decision that surprised some observers, Judge Fletcher chose not to impose a custodial sentence. Instead, he ordered Radford to remain in a bail hostel for a period of four weeks, during which he will undergo a thorough assessment by probation officers. The purpose of this assessment is to determine Radford’s suitability for continued supervision and to evaluate the risks he may pose. Following this period, Radford is expected to return to court for further proceedings, with the hope that appropriate measures will be taken to ensure public safety and compliance with the law.
