CHRISTOPHER POSADA SENTENCED FOR ABUSING TWO BOYS IN MALTON AND HACKNEY

In a case that has shocked the local community, Christopher Posada, a man from Malton, North Yorkshire, was convicted of sexually abusing two young boys over three decades ago. The incident, which took place during the 1980s, only came to light after one of the victims, now in his 30s, reported the abuse to police in 2017.

Posada, who was 47 years old at the time of sentencing, was formally identified as the perpetrator after a thorough investigation by the Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command. On Wednesday, 19 December, he was sentenced to six years in prison at Wood Green Crown Court. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, a measure that underscores the severity of his crimes.

The court proceedings revealed that Posada, who was known as Chris Pope during the period of abuse, targeted two boys who were known to each other. The abuse began when the boys were between six and eight years old. Posada, who was several years older than the victims, initially befriended them and gained their trust. He would invite the boys to his parents’ house in Hackney, where the abuse would occur in private settings.

Furthermore, the court heard that Posada exploited opportunities during games of hide and seek in a nearby churchyard to carry out the abuse. The victims, unaware that the other had been subjected to similar treatment, only realized the extent of the abuse when one of them, now an adult, decided to report the matter to the police in 2017.

Following the report, police officers launched an investigation. Posada was arrested but initially denied any involvement. As the investigation progressed, the second victim came forward, corroborating the allegations. Despite Posada’s denials, he was charged with ten counts of indecent assault of a child. Detective Constable Ben Lucas, who led the investigation, described Posada as a “predatory sexual offender” who manipulated and exploited vulnerable young boys for his own gratification.

Detective Lucas emphasized the importance of the victims’ courage in coming forward and expressed hope that the conviction would aid their recovery from the trauma inflicted upon them. He also issued a plea to anyone who might have been abused by Posada, also known as Chris Pope, to contact the police. Specially trained officers are available to provide support to victims and help bring any additional offenders to justice.
