CHRISTOPHER MAXWELL FROM COWDENBEATH BEATS PARTNER IN HORRIFIC ATTACK AT DUNFERMLINE NIGHTCLUB

A violent assault carried out by Christopher Maxwell, a resident of Meadowfield in Cowdenbeath, has left a woman severely injured and shaken.

The incident occurred after a night out in Dunfermline, where Maxwell's partner, with whom he was planning to marry, was subjected to a brutal attack that nearly resulted in her death.

According to reports presented at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, the couple had been socializing with friends at various pubs before heading to the Life nightclub in Dunfermline at approximately 2:45 am on February 5 of this year.

Tensions escalated during the night when Maxwell accused his partner of infidelity, leading to a heated argument.

The disagreement culminated in the woman deciding to leave and return to her home in Rosyth, where she sought refuge upstairs in the bathroom, locking herself inside.

However, Maxwell did not leave her alone.

He entered the bathroom shouting and continuing to accuse her of cheating.

The situation quickly turned violent when he unlocked the bathroom door and launched a physical assault that lasted between five and ten minutes.

During this assault, Maxwell pinned her to the floor, wrapping both hands around her neck and applying pressure that made her fear she was going to die.

He also kicked her repeatedly, causing significant injuries, including four broken ribs and head lacerations that required medical glue to close.

In a disturbing act of apparent remorse or perhaps an attempt to help, Maxwell then handed her a £5 note and told her to seek help.

The woman managed to escape and ran to her mother’s house.

She was subsequently taken to the emergency department at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, where medical staff treated her injuries.

A nurse at the hospital contacted police after observing her condition.

While she was hospitalized, Maxwell sent her a message indicating he intended to take his own life and apologized for his actions.

Police officers responded to the scene at Maxwell’s residence, where they found him asleep.

He was arrested and taken into custody.

During an interview at Dunfermline police station, Maxwell admitted responsibility for the assault.

His legal representative, Alexander Flett, described Maxwell as a full-time labourer who is “extremely remorseful” about the incident.

Flett also noted that prior to this event, the relationship was described by the woman as generally “good,” with some ups and downs but no history of physical abuse.

The court was informed that Maxwell has no previous convictions.

Prosecutor Jamie Hilland told the court that Maxwell’s actions were severe and dangerous, and a sheriff warned him that he is likely to face a custodial sentence when he returns for sentencing.

The judge, Sheriff Charles Macnair, adjourned the case until June 21 to allow for background reports to be prepared.

He cautioned Maxwell to prepare for the possibility of a lengthy prison term, emphasizing the seriousness of the assault and the potential consequences based on the report’s findings.

UPDATE 11-11-2025 A Kelty man who was previously jailed for a violent assault on his partner began pestering her with abusive calls and messages when she would not rekindle their relationship.

The months of unwanted contact landed 31-year-old Christopher Maxwell back in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

Maxwell, of Loch Leven Terrace, admitted that between October 1 last year and June 17, in Rosyth and elsewhere, he engaged in an abusive course of conduct towards his former partner.

He repeatedly contacted her via phone calls, text messages and social media and refused to desist.

On various occasions he demanded that she rekindled a relationship with him.

Maxwell repeatedly made accusations towards her, demanded to know who she was in a relationship with and demanded that she contact him.

Defense solicitor Amy Harley said: “He had wanted to reconcile.” Sheriff Derek Reekie added: “And he just wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer.” The sheriff warned Maxwell: “Your previous conviction will always follow you around.” He imposed a community payback order with 100 hours of unpaid work, two years’ supervision and participation in the Caledonian Programme for domestic offenders.

The sheriff also imposed a three-year non-harassment order.

In June 2023, Maxwell was jailed for a horrific attack on the same woman in which she suffered broken ribs.

The victim feared she was going to die as she was kicked, punched and choked during the ordeal.

At sentencing, Sheriff Susan Duff had told Maxwell: “This was a ferocious attack.

She thought she was going to die.

You broke four of her ribs and she was covered in cuts and bruises.” Sheriff Susan Duff jailed Maxwell for 16 months and imposed a two-year non-harassment order.
