CHRISTOPHER MABIN PLEADS GUILTY TO SEXUAL OFFENSES IN PLYMOUTH
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Plymouth, a man named Christopher Mabin, aged 51, has admitted to a series of serious sexual offenses involving a young girl.The incidents, which spanned over a period of five years, involved repeated inappropriate physical contact and indecent acts, leading to a court hearing at Plymouth Crown Court.
According to court records, Mabin was accused of engaging in multiple acts of indecent assault against the girl, including kissing her inappropriately on several occasions.
The court was told that these kisses were not consensual and were of a sexual nature, causing significant distress to the victim.
In addition to these acts, Mabin also touched the girl sexually over her clothing on two separate occasions, further compounding the severity of his actions.
The court proceedings revealed that Mabin's misconduct culminated in an incident where he incited the girl to touch him indecently outside his clothing.
This act marked a disturbing escalation in his behavior, and it was this incident that ultimately led to his change of plea.
Initially scheduled to face trial, Mabin decided to admit guilt just before the case was due to commence, avoiding a lengthy court process.
He pleaded guilty to ten counts of indecent assault, which took place between 1983 and 1988, and also admitted to a single charge of committing an act of gross indecency.
The charges reflect a pattern of predatory behavior over several years, highlighting the gravity of his misconduct.
Julia Cox, representing the Crown Prosecution Service, emphasized that the counts involving inappropriate kissing were considered specimen charges, illustrating the nature of the abuse.
The court was also informed that Mabin's actions had caused lasting harm to the victim.
Judge Paul Darlow addressed the jury, noting that the case was quite complex and that Mabin might face a suspended prison sentence combined with sex offender treatment.
The judge mentioned having reviewed a psychiatric report on Mabin, which likely influenced considerations regarding his sentencing.
During the proceedings, Mabin's defense attorney, Ali Rafati, stated that in an interview, the complainant described Mabin as having behaved in a “child-like” manner, despite being in his 20s at the time of the offenses.
