BRISTOL CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE VICTIM TESTIFIES AGAINST CHRISTOPHER LAWRENCE IN COURT
A victim of childhood sexual abuse courageously addressed the court about how his life has been devastated by the experience. He explained that being molested by Christopher Lawrence caused him to develop trust issues, damaged his relationships, and led him to seek comfort in obsessive behaviors.
In his statement, he told Bristol Crown Court: "I've realised how much the abuse affected me and how much it changed my life." Lawrence, 72, residing in Orchard Square, Redfield, Bristol, pleaded guilty to nine historic charges of indecent assault on a male.
His Honour Judge Peter Blair QC, the Recorder of Bristol, sentenced him to 10 years in prison during a hearing on Wednesday, January 12.
The judge noted, "I have taken into account the victim's personal statement, which was read out bravely, explaining the profound and lasting impact of the sexual offences he endured from ages five to 12.
The impact has been severe, causing prolonged harm." Prosecutor Kannan Siva detailed the abuse, stating, "Lawrence repeatedly sexually abused the victim by touching his private parts.
Although the victim confided in his family at age 15 about the abuse, he initially chose not to report it to police.
However, in 2019, he did come forward with a report, though Lawrence did not comment." The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, shared, "It had a huge impact on my life.
As a child, I was determined to be very strong.
I didn't want to tell anyone.
I gave the image of a happy child, but I was not happy inside." He also described how the abuse led him to seek comfort through obsessive behaviors, which ultimately damaged his personal relationships and financial stability.
