CHRISTOPHER LATIMER SENTENCED IN NORFOLK FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING TEENAGE BOY

A 36-year-old man named Christopher Latimer has been sentenced to serve two years in prison after being found guilty of multiple serious child sex offences.

The sentencing took place at Norwich Crown Court on Monday, 3 June 2024, where Latimer was also issued a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to restrict his future conduct.

Latimer, who resides on Meadow View Terrace in Marsham, appeared before the court to face charges related to his inappropriate conduct involving a teenage boy.

He had previously entered a guilty plea to three specific charges: engaging in sexual communication with a child, causing a child to watch a sexual act, and inciting or causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

These offences were committed against the same teenage victim, whose identity remains protected.

In addition to these convictions, Latimer denied two counts of taking indecent images of a child.

The court, however, ordered these charges to lie on file, meaning they will not be pursued further but remain on record.

Furthermore, Latimer was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, a standard requirement for individuals convicted of such offences.

The criminal activities came to light in May 2021, when a concerned friend of the victim raised suspicions about the nature of messages exchanged between Latimer and the teenage boy.

Investigations revealed that Latimer had been communicating with the victim for a period spanning two to three years.

During this time, particularly in early 2021, Latimer began sharing sexually explicit content, including messages, photographs, and videos, with the young person.

It was uncovered that Latimer held a position of trust and authority, as he was a leader within a scout pack attended by the victim.

Additionally, he worked as a caretaker at the victim’s school, which further compounded the breach of trust and safeguarding protocols.

The investigation highlighted the manipulative nature of Latimer’s actions, exploiting his roles to establish and maintain a relationship with the vulnerable teenager.

Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Steven Rush commented on the case, emphasizing the gravity of Latimer’s misconduct.

He stated, “Latimer abused a position of trust in order to build a relationship with his victim.

He was well aware of the age of the boy he was talking to and ignored several safeguarding practices when committing these offences.” DC Rush also expressed appreciation for the bravery of the young victim and others who assisted the police, acknowledging the difficulty of coming forward in such cases.

“I would like to commend the bravery of the young people who spoke up and assisted the police with their investigation.

It was an incredibly difficult time for them, and we could not have secured this outcome without their cooperation.” The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding and the serious consequences faced by those who breach the trust placed in them, especially when involving minors.

The court’s decision aims to deliver justice for the victim and reinforce the message that such offences are taken very seriously by law enforcement authorities.
