CHRISTOPHER KERR SHOCKS ALLERTON WITH CHILD ABUSE CONVICTION IN LIVERPOOL

In a disturbing case that has rocked the community of Allerton in Liverpool, Christopher Kerr, aged 56, has been sentenced to a total of three years in prison after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses committed against a young girl nearly two decades ago.

Kerr, a resident of Brodie Avenue in Allerton, was convicted of six counts of gross indecency and four counts of indecent assault, all relating to incidents that took place between 1985 and 1991. The court heard that during this period, Kerr would frequently visit the victim’s family home, sometimes staying overnight, which allowed him close access to the young girl.

It was revealed that the victim’s parents, unaware of Kerr’s sexual interest in their daughter, permitted him to take her on trips to Blackpool, further complicating the betrayal of trust. The abuse only came to light two years prior to the trial when the victim confided in her uncle about the traumatic incidents she endured during her childhood.

Despite his criminal activities, Kerr was known in the community for his involvement in various voluntary endeavors. He had been recognized for his contributions with an award presented in London by Prince Michael of Kent. Kerr was actively involved in a local judo club and a lifesaving organization, where he dedicated time to teaching children how to swim. Notably, he twice saved children from drowning, actions that earned him respect and admiration in other areas of his life.

However, these commendable activities did not overshadow the gravity of his crimes. Kerr was sentenced to two years for the indecent assaults and an additional 18 months for the acts of gross indecency. The court also imposed a lifelong ban on Kerr working with children, whether in voluntary or paid roles, to prevent any further harm.

Judge William George addressed Kerr directly during sentencing, stating, “You have obviously got personable qualities and many of your activities have been commendable. But you are serious of offences so serious that only custody is justified.”

In his defense, lawyer Frances Hertzog expressed the family’s shock and devastation, saying, “His family are shocked and appalled by these convictions and as a family it has absolutely devastated them.”

Following the sentencing, the victim’s father expressed his feelings, describing Kerr as “the lowest of the low,” and lamented the betrayal of trust, saying, “He was my best friend and he had the run of our house and he abused that. When I heard what he had done, I felt like a zombie, I couldn’t believe it.”
