CARLISLE MAN CHRISTOPHER GREENSMITH ON SEX OFFENDER REGISTER AFTER CHILD SEX OFFENCES
In August 2022, a man from Carlisle, identified as Christopher Greensmith, was officially placed on the Sex Offender Register following his conviction on two serious child sex offences. The case drew significant attention due to the nature of the crimes and the defendant's denial of the allegations during the trial.
Greensmith, aged 21 and residing on Dalegarth Avenue in Carlisle, faced two charges: first, causing a child to view an image depicting sexual activity, and second, engaging in sexual communication with a minor through Snapchat, which involved the sending of intimate images.
The court heard that both offences were driven by Greensmith’s desire for sexual gratification, a factor that contributed to the severity of the case.
After a trial, Greensmith was found guilty of both charges.
The court proceedings revealed that the offences took place between February 1 and March 19 of the previous year.
Despite his denial, the evidence presented was sufficient for conviction, and the court moved forward with sentencing preparations.
Greensmith is scheduled to be sentenced on August 15, with the hearing expected to last approximately 30 minutes.
In the interim, background reports are being compiled to assist the judge in determining the appropriate sentence.
During the sentencing process, District Judge John Temperley granted Greensmith bail under strict conditions, including a prohibition on any contact with the child victim involved in the offences.
Prosecutors emphasized that the duration for which Greensmith will remain on the Sex Offender Register will depend on the length and severity of his eventual sentence.
The case underscores ongoing concerns about child protection and the importance of legal measures to monitor offenders after conviction.
